India wrapped up the largest BRICS Business Forum to date in New Delhi
India wrapped up the largest BRICS Business Forum to date in New Delhi, on Friday September 11, 2026, with leaders calling for deeper economic integration, open markets, and linked digital payment systems among the bloc’s 21 member and partner countries.
Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal, speaking at the closing session, urged BRICS nations to reduce non-tariff barriers, simplify customs, and open markets for raw materials and critical minerals. He stressed that trade should be “deep, resilient, with diversified supply chains” and not become an impediment to growth.
A key proposal was linking payment systems across BRICS nations, and promoting trade in local currencies to cut friction and costs. Goyal cited India’s Unified Payments Interface, which processes over 250 billion transactions annually, and is accepted in 11 countries, as a potential model for wider cooperations.
