The DUP backs proposal for a renegotiated Brexit deal
Prime Minister Boris Johnson, has gotten the backing of the leadership of the Northern Irish Democratic Unionist Party(DUP), in his latest Brexit proposal. According to the party, the new proposal would ensure the province leaves both the European Union customs union and the single market as well.
The party hailed the proposal for removing what it called the anti- democratic backstop clause of the earlier agreement which was championed by the Irish government. The former agreement would have left Northern Ireland aligned to both the customs union and single market rules to ensure friction-less trade. According to the DUP, the new proposal would give room for democratic consent to some specific elements of alignment between Northern Ireland and the European Union.
