Nigerian journalist, Chikezie emerges winner of the 2018 African Fact-checking award
A Nigerian journalist, Chikezie Omeje, who is a senior investigative and data reporter with the International Center for Investigative Reporting (ICIR), Abuja emerged winner of the 2018 African fact-checking award.
Omeje was announced winner of this prestigious award, on Tuesday at the African Investigative Journalism Conference, Johannesburg, South Africa.
His winning entry came from a report which invalidated claims by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) of a drastic drop in pre-school enrolment in 2016 in Nigeria.
The African fact-checking award is annually organized by an independent and non-partisan fact checking organization called African Check.
