A call on all security services in Nigeria to support electoral policing and functions
The Independent National Electoral Commission in Nigeria has identified thirteen sets of possible security challenges during the general elections in Nigeria beginning in February. Some of which include the snatching of ballot boxes, kidnapping, intimidation of voters, and assassination of political opponents amongst others. There is therefore a call to all security services in Nigeria to support efforts geared towards curbing violence during the elections in order to have safe, free, and fair elections. Meanwhile, the Nigerian air force says it will operate only within its jurisdiction during the polls as the lead agency when it comes to electoral policing is the Nigerian Police and their sister agencies but members of the armed forces are not directly involved in election security activities. Air Marshal Sadiq Abubakar disclosed this.
