Grand celebration witnessed at Parliament Square as UK officially leaves the EU.
After an arduous journey which began with the former Prime Minister, David Cameron, calling a referendum in which over 17 Million Brits voted to leave the European Union, the United Kingdom finally bids farewell to the EU at 11:00pm GMT on January 31st, 2020.
3 hours before the official exit ceremony, at the EU Headquarters, the UK’s flag was taken down from its pole outside the European Parliament in Brussels.
In just a few days, an agreed transition period until the end of 2020 begins, while the UK and EU negotiate additional arrangements to hopefully come up with a trade deal that pleases all parties involved. The current rules on trade, travel, and business for the UK and EU will continue to apply during the transition period. Congratulations to the United Kingdom for a dream come true!
